Scooters are a fun, practical and popular way to get around in Darwin and overseas. They are ideal for commuting, short trips and travel, and are often the first step into riding for people planning holidays in popular destinations such as Bali.
While scooters may appear simple to operate, safe riding requires proper skills, knowledge and training. To legally ride a scooter in the Northern Territory, you must hold a valid R class (motorcycle) licence.
All of our licence courses can be completed on our modern scooter fleet, with automatic options available. Training is delivered by experienced instructors with strong scooter roadcraft knowledge, including extensive riding experience throughout Darwin, Southeast Asia and other overseas destinations. This ensures training is practical, relevant, and directly applicable to both local and international riding conditions.
Holding a valid R class motorcycle licence is important if you plan to ride a scooter while traveling overseas, including on holidays. It allows you to select appropriate travel insurance and apply for an international driver or rider licence when planning to ride overseas. In destinations such as Bali and Thailand, riding without the correct licence can result in fines, voided travel insurance, or serious complications if you are involved in an accident. A properly issued Australian motorcycle licence demonstrates that you are legally licensed and trained before riding internationally, and is required when applying for your international rider licence permit and travel insurance.
If you do not yet hold a Learner R class motorcycle licence, you will need to book into our Pre-Learner Licence course.
If you already hold a valid R class motorcycle learner licence and are progressing to the next stage, you will need to complete the Pre-Provisional (Restricted) Licence course.
Our scooter training focuses on real-world riding skills for better control, hazard awareness, safe road positioning and most importantly, for more fun! Courses are delivered in a supportive, confidence-building environment and are suitable for first-time riders, returning riders including students who intend to ride automatic scooters in Darwin or overseas.
All bookings include free automatic scooter hire and helmet hire, so you do not need to own or source your own scooter. Training is conveniently located in Yarrawonga, with easy access from Darwin, Palmerston, and the Northern suburbs. Flexible scheduling is available, with courses completed in a single full day or split over two consecutive evenings.
