Do you offer discounts?

We provide the best value motorcycle licences in Darwin by combining:

  • Complimentary bike and scooter hire.

  • The NT’s best fleet, including lowered seat height options.

  • Experienced, highly qualified coaches.

  • A pristine private training facility.

For this reason, additional discounts are not offered on individual bookings. From time to time, we may run limited promotions. We also have an ongoing partnership with AANT for exclusive member savings.

Will you provide a motorcycle or scooter for me to use?

Yes! Every licence course booking includes free motorbike or scooter hire.

Our fleet includes:

  • KTM Duke 200s (a top learner choice).

  • CF MOTO Papios (70 cm lowered seat option).

  • Automatic Yahama scooters.

All our motorbikes are new and immaculately maintained, with all the modern safety features include ABS brakes and six speed gearboxes. We even have lowered options for small riders, with a seat height as low as 70cm! You will be able to choose your preferred option on the day, or try out a few different bikes, if you like!

Helmets and gloves are also available if you don’t have your own.

Do you train and assess scooter riders, and provide scooter licencing as well?

Yes! We train and conduct licensing for all riders in Darwin, including scooter riders!

We offer scooter licence courses and training in Darwin, with free automatic scooter hire included.

We have multiple new scooters in our fleet, and our coaches are also experienced in this riding discipline, having ridden scooters over many kilometers and destinations all over the world!

There are particular skills and roadcraft needed for safe and effective scooter operation. We will help you learn the unique skills of safe and enjoyable scooter riding in Darwin and beyond.

Can I use my own motorcycle for my licence course?

Yes, you can bring your own motorcycle or scooter as long as it is roadworthy, registered, and appropriate for your licence stage, such as being LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) compliant with L plates attached. Our team will check your motorcycle before your Learner or Provisional or Restricted licence course begins. Most students choose to use a bike from our fleet, which is always included free of charge.

Provisional riders are welcome to use one of our fleet bikes. However if you have your own bike, you may find many of the skills are effectively learned on the bike that you are most familiar with. We also find that riders tend to do better in their assessments when they are on the motorbike they feel most comfortable with.

What course availability do you have?

TMT offers the widest range of motorcycle licence training and assessment classes in the NT, with up to six group courses per week plus flexible private options.

All available dates are listed on our online booking platform. If a date is visible, it’s available, but be quick and book early, as courses sell out fast!

How much does it cost to get a motorcycle licence in Darwin?

Not only do we have the best price on all motorcycle and scooter licence courses in NT. Every course includes complimentary motorcycle or scooter hire, saving you even more!

For up-to-date pricing, visit our booking page at  territorymotorcycletraining.com

Where is the training held?

Our training centre is located at: 119 Coonawarra Road, Winnellie (shared with Refuel).

Please park across the road in the public easement and enter via the glass office doors. We’re also the only NT motorcycle training provider on a main public transport route, with a bus stop just up the road.

What should I bring and wear to my course?

Motorcycling requires the right gear. Riders who arrive in unsuitable clothing cannot participate and will record a failing grade.

You must wear:

  • Long pants (jeans or cargo pants).

  • A long-sleeved shirt or jacket (no hoodies or jumpers in the heat).

  • Closed shoes such as boots.

Students who attend wearing t shirts, shorts and/or open footwear will not be permitted to ride, and may record a failing grade.

Please also bring water, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Kitchen facilities are available on site, and there are cafés nearby for lunch.

Can I cancel or reschedule my course?

We get it, plans can change. We are happy to reschedule or refund your booking with sufficient notice.

We have a Policy that keeps our training as affordable and accessible as possible for everyone, and ensures that all riders have a fair chance at securing a place on one of our sought after courses.

Your place on a course with TMT has been reserved and carefully prepared just for you. When you book a licence course with TMT, we roster qualified coaches to ensure suitable instructor to student ratios, reserve a motorcycle just for you and make sure that all maintenance and pre-ride checks are carried out in advance, we extend training hours, arrange venues, ensure that minimum group quotas are met, and secure required permits well in advance. These are real costs that can’t be recovered if a booking is cancelled too close to the course date. Cancellations too close to the course date also mean that we can't refill your spot in time, and other students end up missing out.

Our courses book out well in advance, and we need to know as early as possible if you need to make changes to your booking.

To keep our prices fair and accessible for everyone:

  • We ask that 14 days’ notice is provided for any cancellations or reschedules.

  • Requests made within 14 days of your course date, including same-day changes, can’t be routinely approved.

  • No-shows and missed bookings can't be retrospectively refunded or rescheduled.

  • We will reschedule or refund bookings with more than 14 days notice. Reschedules are free of charge. Refunds have a small 10% fee to cover transaction and administration costs.

For full details, please refer to our Refund, Cancellation and Reschedule Policy

We have these requirements in place to ensure fairness to everyone, and to keep our motorcycle licence courses as affordable and accessible as possible for all NT riders.

What if I am late or miss my course?

Arriving on time is part of your responsibility as a rider. Doors are locked at the scheduled start time as there is a significant amount of mandatory content to cover, and a prompt start is required.

Late arrivals will miss mandatory curriculum content, essential safety briefings and will not be able to participate in the course, leading to a failing grade.

Late arrivals, missed bookings, forgotten courses, or no-shows cannot be refunded or rescheduled.

What if it rains?

Our motorcycle rider training and licensing courses run in all weather, rain or shine. Riding in different conditions is part of becoming a safe and confident motorcyclist.

Only in extreme weather, such as cyclones, would we postpone – in which case we’ll contact you to reschedule you at no extra cost.

Do I need to sit a motorcycle theory test at the MVR?

In addition to your practical training with us, you must complete a motorcycle knowledge test at the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR). This can be done before or after your course with Territory Motorcycle Training.

Do I need to live in the Northern Territory to get a rider licence?

Yes. You must be a Northern Territory resident with an NT customer ID (or NT driver licence) to be eligible for a licence outcome from our courses. Please bring this with you on the day.

I already have lots of riding experience, do I still need motorcycle training?

Even if you’ve been riding for years (overseas, off-road or are a returning road rider), you must complete the NT motorcycle licence process to ride legally on NT roads.

Our experienced coaches will recognise your skill level and adapt your training so you can progress quickly and confidently. Most of our NT riders come with prior experience, although this is not essential.

We can help you move through course content efficiently while still covering all mandatory elements, and building on your existing skillset to make it a high-value course.

Even our experienced riders still find value in learning road-specific safety skills with us, and have a great day. We always make sure to make it an enjoyable training session for everyone, full of lots of learning and fun.

What if I have a licence from another state or country?

If you already have a motorcycle licence from another Australian state or territory or from overseas, you’ll need to transfer it to the NT through the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR). Here’s how.

For interstate motorcycle licence transfers:

If you already hold a motorcycle licence from another Australian state or territory, you may be able to have it recognised in the Northern Territory (NT). In most cases, you’ll simply transfer your licence through the NT Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR).

If you’ve moved to Darwin or anywhere in the Northern Territory and hold a motorcycle licence from another state:

  1. Apply within 3 months of becoming an NT resident.

  2. Complete the L1 – NT Driver/Rider Licence Application Form.

  3. Visit an MVR office or participating Australia Post outlet with:

    • Your current interstate licence (to be surrendered), and

    • Proof of NT residency and identity.

  4. Submit your application (usually no fee unless your licence is due for renewal).

  5. Any existing conditions on your licence (e.g., medical or penalties) will also transfer.

  6. Once approved, the MVR issues you with an NT motorcycle licence.

For riders still on their learners, you will be able to attend for your Provisional or Restricted motorcycle licence training and assessment with Territory Motorycle Training after holding your motorcycle licence for six months (please verify with the MVR prior if your time on your Learner motorcycle licence interstate can be recognised in NT) and before the R Class expiry printed on the back of your licence.

For overseas motorcycle licence transfers:

If you hold a motorcycle licence from another country, the rules depend on where your licence was issued. Some overseas licences can be directly transferred, while others may require you to complete training and assessment in the NT before you can ride legally.

Because the MVR makes all licensing decisions, we recommend contacting them directly to confirm your individual circumstances before booking with us. While we’re happy to provide general guidance, we cannot access your licensing records.

  1. Apply within 3 months of arriving in the NT.

  2. Submit your L1 form plus:

    • Your overseas licence (in English or with a certified translation), or

    • A letter from your licensing authority confirming your status (with translation if required).

  3. Pay applicable processing fees.

  4. Depending on your country:

    • From a recognised country: usually no test required.

    • From a non-recognised country: you may need to pass a theory test to be issued an interim licence, in addition to attending a practical riding test with Territory Motorcycle Training.

If you do need training or assessment, TMT can help. We offer learner, provisional and restricted rider licence courses in Darwin, including practical rider assessments for international licence transfers.

Our goal is to make sure every rider is confident, capable, and safe on NT roads.

I’m nervous! What if I’ve never ridden before?

That’s okay! Many of our students are complete beginners, and our training is designed to take you step by step. Our coaches are patient and highly experienced at building confidence in new riders.

You’ll start in a safe, controlled environment on modern learner-friendly motorcycles and scooters. By the end of the course, most nervous beginners are surprised by how much they’ve achieved. If you’re searching for motorcycle lessons Darwin for beginners, you’re in the right place.

Do you offer support for female riders?

Yes! We are proud to host the only female registered training provider for motorcycle licensing in the Northern Territory as one of our lead instructors.

Many women tell us they feel more comfortable learning in an environment where they know they’ll be treated with respect and patience, without judgment.

At Territory Motorcycle Training, we understand that stepping into motorcycling can sometimes feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never ridden before or have had discouraging experiences elsewhere. Our approach is to create a safe, supportive space where all riders can build skills at their own pace, ask questions freely, and gain the confidence they need to enjoy riding.

We’ve trained hundreds of female riders, from complete beginners through to advanced riders, and are passionate about helping women succeed on two wheels. Whether you want extra guidance, a private coaching session, or simply reassurance that you’ll be supported, we’re here to back you every step of the way.

What if I need extra support or prefer private lessons?

Not everyone learns the same way, and we understand that some riders feel more comfortable with one-on-one training. At TMT, we offer private motorcycle lessons in Darwin tailored to your needs.

Private training is ideal if:

  • You’re feeling nervous and want extra support.

  • You learn better outside of a group environment.

  • You have previous riding experience but want coaching targeted to your skill level.

  • You want maximum flexibility with training times.

Our coaches will work with you individually to build confidence, improve technique, and help you prepare for your licence in a supportive, relaxed environment.

To book a private motorcycle lesson in Darwin, contact our rider care team on 0473 077 926 or book directly through our online platform at  territorymotorcycletraining.com

Do you run advanced motorcycle training courses?

Yes. In addition to licensing, TMT also provides advanced rider training in Darwin for experienced riders who want to sharpen their skills, improve safety, and build confidence on the road. We also offer mechanical and maintenance workshops for riders who want to understand their bike better.

Do you sell gift vouchers for motorcycle training?

Yes! A gift voucher is a great way to get a loved one rolling on two wheels. Skills are the ultimate gift!

You can purchase motorcycle training gift vouchers in Darwin directly from our website. They make a perfect present for anyone wanting to start their riding journey. Gift vouchers can be used for any of our licence courses or private lessons.

How is Territory Motorcycle Training different?

Territory Motorcycle Training (TMT) is Darwin’s leading motorcycle training provider, offering everything from learner and provisional licences through to advanced rider training. But we see ourselves as more than just a riding school.

At Territory Motorcycle Training (TMT), our mission goes beyond teaching the basics of motorcycling. We exist to revolutionise rider training in the Northern Territory by making it safer, more accessible, and more inspiring than ever before.

Our vision is to create a motorcycle training experience that sets new standards in Australia. One that combines:

  • A supportive environment where beginners feel safe and experienced riders continue to grow.

  • Community impact. We want to build a culture of responsibility, respect, and passion for riding across the Territory.

At TMT, our values are built around three things:

1. Safety and responsibility
Motorcycling demands focus and maturity. We train riders not just to pass a test, but to develop safe habits and the confidence to ride for life.

2. Quality and professionalism
We pride ourselves on the NT’s best fleet of modern motorcycles and scooters, a pristine private training facility, and highly qualified coaches with years of experience. Do you offer a "Guaranteed Pass"?

While some training providers advertise a “Guaranteed Pass,” students should be cautious about the legality and integrity of these promises, and what these claims actually signify.

A motorcycle licence outcome is determined by the NT MVR, based on demonstrated skills (which we teach and assess) and your eligibility at each stage of NT's Graduated Licensing System. It cannot be guaranteed by any provider.

When you achieve a passing grade with TMT, you can be sure that your result is based on your skills and competency as a rider, in compliance with all MVR motorcycle rider licence assessment requirements. We train you to the highest standards, assess you objectively, and report your results to the MVR. The MVR, as the regulator, makes the decision to issue your motorcycle licence.

Advertising a “guaranteed pass” can be false and misleading, because:

  • A passing grade cannot be guaranteed under the MVR’s licensing framework. Your outcome should always depend on your demonstrated skills.

  • It creates a financial conflict of interest, making it impossible for course providers to act ethically.

  • It places undue pressure on assessors to pass students who may not yet be safe, which can cloud their objectivity.

  • It undermines the integrity of the licensing system, public trust in the training scheme, and confidence in rider safety.

At TMT, we will never compromise integrity in our standards of training and assessment. We are committed to the highest standards of professionalism, with rider safety always at the heart of all of our decisions. Most of our students pass on their first attempt, as we pride ourselves on providing exceptionally high-quality training, tailored to individual needs.

When you earn your licence through TMT, you know it has been achieved properly, in compliance with all regulatory requirements. No shortcuts. Just high quality training and assessment, with rider skills front and centre.

If you need more time and practice, that’s absolutely fine! We offer individualised training options to help you build the skills and confidence necessary for safe and enjoyable lifelong riding.

There’s a reason TMT is leading improvements in industry standards. We put rider outcomes and safety above all else, while making high quality training as accessible as possible for everyone, and we’re proud to set the bar higher.

(Our approach is also consistent with Australian Consumer Law, which requires providers to avoid misleading claims and ensures services are delivered fairly and transparently.)
